Honor’s Night

Last night we had our Honor’s Night ceremony at the high school, and it was a very nice event. The senior class received over $102,000 in scholarship money! I myself earned several awards and was presented with a special recognition for the Singletary Scholarship from UK. Patrick was the Honor’s Night Speaker, the distinction given to the third highest ranking student in the class. He had a great speech that ended with a Bob Marley quote that we should all take to heart, especially seniors moving away for the first time in their lives to college: “In this bright future you can’t forget your past.”

It’s true. There are only three days of high school left, and gradutation is Saturday. It’s crazy to even think about how fast this year has gone by, but I can’t sit here and tell you all about it! I have to get back to writing my essays and speeches due this week!

May may just kill me!

So, high school graduation is supposed to be a time of fun and enjoyment right?

HA!

I’ll believe it when I see it! I haven’t been so busy and stressed out in my life! As I write this blog entry, I am currently working on scholarships, essays, and a Valedictorian speech. I am also reading two books and a play. How could things get any crazier? At least my four AP tests are over and done with. I guess I will have to see if I make it up to that podium on the 22nd, and then things will be nice and calm. Actually they won’t be, since I have to start summer classes and work as a lifeguard just two weeks after graduation. Oh well, gotta make that cash flow, right?

Singletary Scholar

I was selected as a 2010 Otis A. Singletary Scholar by the University of Kentucky just as of a few days ago. I am extremely proud of this honor. The scholarship covers four years of tuition, room, and board to the University of Kentucky, plus a $1,500 yearly stipend. Only 20-27 are selected for this honor every year out of the 400+ applicants.

After the applications are sent in, 75 finalists are selected and requested for scholarship interviews. I completed my interview in late February and I felt really confident because I felt that the interview had gone very well. Turns out my feeling was correct!

I am super excited for my college education now that everything is paid for! That’s always a great feeling.

Ready to Rumble

Well, I am writing this entry from my Blackberry while laying across two bus seats. Our first round football playoff game is tonight in Louisville, so we had to leave the school at 12 so we’ll be there on time.

I finally am able to play – my doctor cleared me to play last Friday! This could be a possible win, so I am really excited to be back. If not, it could be the last game of my entire career, and I want to go out in style. I’m leaving it all out there on that field.

Ouchies

So the game against Murray didn’t go too well, but the team played with heart and never gave up. I got crushed by a big ‘ole fatty and my arm is killing me. I will be purple and sore all next week for sure. Here’s to next Friday – our rivalry game and our first victory of the season!

I’m headed to Chicago over the Labor Day weekend. I think it’ll be pretty fun. I didn’t get any homework over the weekend, so that was really nice. I wasn’t expecting that! Wish Steph could come but I’ve got next weekend to spend with her!

The Calculus blues

Well, I am fresh off of a pretty decent day of school. I made it through with minimal homework, got to hang with Steph, and only had to take one test today. I took my first AP Calculus test yesterday, and I was happy to hear that I failed it today. I don’t know what the grade is yet, but it sure wasn’t passing. I hope I can make it though Calculus – it’s one tough mother!

Well, it’s been a while since my last update. I apologize, it has been a pretty busy (as usual) week for me. I’m going to have a mini-rant on the football season so far. Enjoy. :-/

Last Friday was terrible. We got stomped in the football game against Lake County, 70-19. There was no defense and a general lack of dedication and heart that contributed to the loss. But that’s the past. It’s time to step up and turn this football season around. There are 9 games left and we can win every single one of them if we dedicated ourselves. As a leader on the team I will do my best to keep my team strong. I’m ready to bust some butt out there tomorrow night vs. Gleason. It’s our first home game, and everybody’s watching. Our backs are to the wall, and we have to escape with a win. Otherwise this may be the sign of a LONG 9 weeks to come.

Sore as Hell

Football practice has not been kind to me over the past couple of days – I have managed to pull my groin and now have to constantly stretch and prevent further injury! In addition, my legs are pretty tired. I feel like Frankenstein or something like him! Grahhhhh.

I am still trying to look up for the next three months. It’s going to be hard, but I have people supporting me on all sides. That helps more than I could ever put into words.

I’ve gotta go to practice now. Be good, ya hear?

Loaded schedule

I registered for senior year classes at the high school last night, and I got one heck of a draw. Four AP classes in one year is gonna be tough, but having teachers for all of them will make it easier for any questions I may have. I am only worried about the effects it’s going to have on free time and my social life. I guess I’ll have to wait for school to start to figure all of that out.

I’m pretty much booked for the first semester between football and completing my Eagle Scout project and work. I may get to enjoy my senior year once everything pans out. Here’s to looking up!
